Annual Meeting: Networking and Events

Participants in the 2024 Annual Meeting had plenty of opportunities throughout the meeting for serendipitous connections with friends and colleagues from around the world. Learn more about the slate of networking events below.

Annual Meeting Party

Participants ate, drank, and (line) danced the night away at the Western-themed party at the National Western Complex! They joined AAN's mascot Sarah Bellum for Western-themed activities like dueling pianos, line dancing, and more.

Business Administrator Day

Our second annual Business Administrator Day was themed "Leadership Toolkit: Equipping Today for Tomorrow’s Challenges." It was full of actionable content, engaging dialogue, and network building. Topics included pop culture leadership lessons, memory disorder center best practices, and leading a multigenerational team.

Keynote

Esteemed authority on leadership and organizational development, Joanne Smikle, PhD, delivered her keynote address on “The Journey to Leadership Excellence.”

Breakout Sessions

To meet individual setting needs, morning breakout sessions featured topics and discussions specific to the private and academic settings. 

Panel Discussions

Panelists from private and academic settings discussed leadership theories and how they impact organizational culture; and shared stories of their leadership journeys.

Networking

Valuable connections were made with business administrator colleagues from a variety of practice settings. In the afternoon, participants met new connections during a speed networking session.

Reception

A casual networking session for business administrators to unwind over drinks and appetizers.

New! Annual Meeting Sports Concussion Course

New in 2024, the American Academy of Neurology hosted a full-day Sports Concussion course. This course is available for replay in the online platform until May 6, 2024, and will be in the On Demand product. Watch this course to:

  • Get the latest evidence-based guidelines for concussion to be able to apply a comprehensive multidisciplinary approach to management and recovery
  • Understand various effects of concussion incidence including acute, persistent, and long-term effects, and describe the current state of biomarkers for concussion   
  • Earn 7 CME credits

The Commitment to Cures Gala was held at the Hyatt Regency Denver at the Colorado Convention Center to celebrate and support brain disease research. Learn about new breakthroughs and hear extraordinary stories from those living with brain disease. Learn more.

Futures in Neurologic Research Boot Camp

Medical students, residents, and fellows got resources on successful research strategies and outcomes and took part in valuable networking and table discussions. Speakers presented on rigor in experimental design, time management, NIH perspectives, and innovative careers in research.

Medical Student Symposium: Careers in Neurology

Medical students became familiar with the various subspecialty areas in neurology and had the opportunity to network with residents and neurologists.

Trainee and Faculty Networking Reception

Allowed trainees and faculty to hear about or share faculty experiences as well as the prospects of clerkship, residency, fellowships, and other career opportunities within the field of neurology.

Exhibit Hall Networking and Events

The exhibit hall featured social and networking events, including:

  • Opening Luncheon: Fun, food, and entertainment.
  • Networking Crawl: A walking food tour around the exhibit hall with delicious fare while discovering new cuisines and new contacts.
  • Paint and Wine: A step-by-step how-to-paint a picture that participants could take home.

Java, juice, and jobs

A chance for career seekers to network and find new career opportunities that align with their career goals.

Happy Hour

Happy Hour is the best hour! Participants ate, drank, and mingled with friends and colleagues.
